The call for session proposals, abstracts and posters is now open for Adaptation Futures 2023 (AF2023), to be held in Montreal in October 2023. Additionally, AF2023 seeks to establish one or two regional hubs during the conference as a complement and alternative to attending the conference in person in Montreal.

The Adaptation Futures conference series is the premier international conference devoted entirely to climate change adaptation, bringing together researchers, policymakers, practitioners, industry representatives and communicators to present their work on adaptation, discuss emerging and cutting-edge issues, learn what others are doing, and build networks. The conference provides a unique chance to share expertise, skills and backgrounds and exchange experiences with an active adaptation network.

This biennial conference is the flagship event of the World Adaptation Science Programme (WASP), one of the four components of the World Climate Programme. In October 2023, Ouranos, the Government of Canada and WASP will host the 7th edition of Adaptation Futures with a hybrid format to allow innovative online participation.

AF2023 objectives

  • Learn from Indigenous, local knowledge and voices in climate change adaptation research, policies, practices and actions around the world.
  • Accelerate the adoption of transformative adaptation for long-term resilience.
  • Bring marginalised voices, especially from the Global South, to the forefront in pursuit of climate justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Accelerate momentum towards the Global Goal on Adaptation and the Global Stocktake and build on action to implement effective adaptation.

Regional hubs

AF2023 seeks to establish one or two regional hubs during the conference as a complement and alternative to attending the conference in person in Montreal. More specifically, AF2023 is looking for strong, experienced and highly motivated organisations or networks based in strategic locations in Africa and Latin America to take the lead with the regional hubs. These hubs will have the financial support of AF2023, strong affinity with the AF2023 Scientific Committee and be in close collaboration with the Canadian conference organisers to ensure a successful and innovative Adaptation Futures event.

More information on how to propose a hub can be found here

Apply by 21 December 2022.
