This comprehensive report captures the key messages that emerged from the Resilience Evidence Forum, held in Cape Town from 20-22 June 2023. The report is based on the latest evidence and methodological advancements across different scales of analysis, as well as different cross-cutting themes. It emphasises the need to prioritise resilience as a collective goal, showcases success stories and outlines principles for scaling evidence-based solutions.

In June 2023, the Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) and USAID co-hosted the Resilience Evidence Forum. This dynamic three day event welcomed over 200 physical attendees and over 1000 virtual participants. Attendees included representatives from USAID headquarters and field offices, implementing partners, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), United Nations and international organisations, donors, government officials from global South nations, universities, private sector entities, community-based organisations and research institutions. The forum served as an important platform for taking stock of the latest resilience evidence available.

CDKN was one of eight knowledge partners supporting the event and co-led the Communities and Socio-Ecological Systems tracks.

Building on the success of the Resilience Evidence Forum, a comprehensive report encapsulating the key discussions and takeaways has been produced. The report underscores the pressing need to build upon our progress, recognise the various forms of evidence — be it scientific, local knowledge, indigenous knowledge, or conveyed through storytelling — and elevate resilience as a collective, paramount objective. It highlights the importance of scaling evidence-based solutions and identifies the vital role various stakeholders play in realising this objective. Furthermore, the report presents success stories and delves into the principles and priorities for enhancing resilience.
